Chef in the Galley handy tips.
- Frozen meals.
Your meals will generally arrive frozen in easy ready-to-use packaging for you 5/7 day charter. If you have limited space in your onboard freezer please keep your frozen meals in the foam box they are delivered in. Typically, subject to volume, these will stay frozen and slowly thawing over 2 to 3 days. By this time you are halfway through your holiday and will start to have room in your on-board refrigeration. All meals will last long term frozen and 5 to 7 days in a refrigerator.
Alternately, you can order your planned first night, even first 2 nights to be delivered ready to use and stored in the refrigerator while the bulk of your order stays in the foam box untouched for a day or 2.
Take your first night’s meal out the day before and leave to thaw externally for the first 3 hours and then in your fridge overnight.
Take your second night’s meal out after the first night’s dinner and repeat the process. Your box of frozen food will thaw steadily after this in the foam box and should be ready for use as needed.
Large items like the lamb leg and 6 pack of beef cheeks may need a little longer thawing time external to the overnight refrigeration.
Managing your time thawing and use of the foam box of frozen meals will make life much easier in the galley while ensuring food safety and best use of the often limited fridge/freezer space on board.
